Is Himachal Pradesh Experiencing Rampant Corruption and Administrative Collapse?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Shimla, Jan 13 (NationPress) Senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament Suresh Kashyap lambasted the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh for rampant corruption, administrative disarray, and escalating lawlessness. He stated that the state is enduring one of its most severe periods of misgovernance in history.
Kashyap highlighted that levels of corruption and administrative chaos have surged alarmingly under the Congress administration, rendering public funds vulnerable and disregarding constitutional integrity.
He pointed to the alleged irregularities in the Rs 36.77 crore GI pipe procurement scam within the Jal Shakti Department for the year 2024-25, claiming it exemplifies systemic corruption under political protection.
As per official screening committee reports, 4,770 metric tonnes of GI pipes were procured in clear violation of tender regulations, he asserted.
"Essential procedures like weighing, dispatch, and trans-shipment overseen by representatives from the Civil Supplies Corporation were entirely overlooked. There was no videography, no official presence, and not a shred of statutory compliance. Documents reveal fabricated E-way bills, dubious transshipment records, and manipulation involving 12.550 and 13.150 metric tons of materials, suggesting potential collusion, document forgery, and a major scam," he stated.
The parliamentarian questioned why, despite such serious findings being officially documented, no decisive action has been taken against the culpable officers or their political protectors.
He claimed that merely withholding around Rs 22 crore in payments is a mere pretense of accountability.
"If the BJP hadn't consistently highlighted this issue, this scam would have been buried in bureaucratic files," he accused the government of engaging in cover-ups instead of enforcing accountability.
In addressing the decline of administrative integrity, another party MP, Rajeev Bhardwaj, denounced recent controversial remarks and social media posts made under political protection.
He stated that such irresponsible comments directed at senior officials from outside the state not only violate constitutional standards but also threaten the state's social harmony, administrative cohesion, and cultural values.
Bhardwaj emphasized that Himachal Pradesh, revered as Devbhoomi, has always embraced officials and employees from around the nation who have served with commitment and integrity.
Efforts to incite regional sentiments, undermine institutions, and politicize governance are perilous and intolerable, Bhardwaj asserted.
Both leaders questioned the Chief Minister's continued silence, stating it raises significant concerns.
"Either the Chief Minister supports these actions, or he has entirely lost control over his government and administration," they remarked.
