Mumbai, April 8 (NationPress) Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar has faced a fine for a slow over-rate during their victory against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 matchup at Wankhede Stadium on Monday.

RCB triumphed over Mumbai Indians by 12 runs in a thrilling encounter. The match kept the audience engaged, as RCB, under the leadership of Patidar, maintained their composure in the final over to clinch a remarkable victory at the venue after a decade.

According to an official statement, “Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 21 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium,” the statement detailed.

“As this marked his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, Patidar was fined INR 12 lakhs,” it continued.

Previously, other captains including Hardik Pandya of MI, Riyan Parag from Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Rishabh Pant of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were also penalized for slow over-rate.

Star batsman Virat Kohli spearheaded the RCB effort with an impressive 67 off 42 balls, marking his second half-century of the season, while skipper and Player of the Match Patidar contributed 64 off 32 balls, along with Jitesh Sharma’s quick 40 off 21, propelling the visitors to a formidable 221/5.

In response, MI skipper Hardik Pandya (42 off 15) and Tilak Varma (56 off 29) initiated a remarkable counterattack after a top-order collapse, almost achieving a thrilling chase. However, RCB’s proficient death bowling guaranteed their victory in a nail-biting finish.
