Lucknow, May 24 (NationPress) Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar and Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins have been penalized due to their teams' slow over-rate during their IPL 2025 encounter at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, on Friday.
Since it was his team's second violation of the season regarding the IPL's Code of Conduct related to minimum over-rate offences, Patidar was fined Rs 24 lakh. The other members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each fined Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their respective match fees, whichever was lower.
Cummins faced a fine of Rs 12 lakh as it was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct concerning minimum over-rate violations.
Although Patidar participated in the match against SRH as an impact substitute, with Jitesh Sharma acting as the stand-in captain, the fine was still levied on Patidar since he is the full-time captain of RCB this season.
RCB's ambitions to secure a top-two finish took a substantial hit following a 42-run defeat to SRH. The team fell short in their pursuit of a challenging 232-run target, despite a solid opening partnership of 80 runs between Virat Kohli and Phil Salt. They dramatically collapsed, losing their last seven wickets for just 16 runs.
Prior to that, SRH had set a formidable target by scoring 231/6 in 20 overs, significantly aided by Ishan Kishan’s unbeaten 94 off 48 balls.
As a consequence of this defeat, RCB slipped to third place in the standings, holding 17 points from 13 matches. Their final league-stage match is scheduled against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium on May 27.
To clinch a spot in the top two, RCB must win and hope that either Gujarat Titans or Punjab Kings stumble in their respective final matches.
