Guwahati, March 31 (NationPress) The captain of the Rajasthan Royals, Riyan Parag, has incurred a fine of Rs 12 lakh for failing to maintain the required over-rate while defending their total against the Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.

Rajasthan Royals managed to defend a score of 182 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, achieving a narrow victory over the five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings, by six runs. However, their inability to complete the 20 overs within the designated time resulted in a penalty for skipper Parag amounting to Rs 12 lakh.

According to an official statement, Riyan Parag, captain of the Rajasthan Royals, has been fined after his team exhibited a slow over-rate during Match 11 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against the Chennai Super Kings at the ACA Stadium, Guwahati on March 30, 2025.

The statement further clarified that because this was the first instance of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate violations, Parag was penalized Rs 12 lakh.

Prior to the IPL 2025 season, the BCCI established a new rule stipulating that captains would no longer serve match bans for their teams' slow over-rates; instead, a demerit point system would be implemented. This change was communicated to all teams during a captains' meeting held at the BCCI headquarters on March 20.

This incident marks the first penalty for a captain concerning slow over-rate this season. Previously, Hardik Pandya, captain of the Mumbai Indians, faced a similar penalty. Notably, Pandya had missed MI's opening match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) due to a suspension from an over-rate violation in an IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants.

On Sunday, the Rajasthan Royals celebrated their first victory in IPL 2025, triumphing over the CSK by six runs at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati. Nitish Rana was the standout performer, scoring 81 runs off 36 balls, while Wanindu Hasaranga excelled with the ball, achieving figures of 4-35.
