Hyderabad, Dec 3 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, alleged on Wednesday that the BJP manipulated his statements made during a Congress party gathering, driven by frustration after losing their deposit in the recent bye-election for the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency.
During a meeting with the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) executive, he expressed to the District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents that the Congress party resembles a Hindu society.
He clarified that these remarks were intended to guide DCC presidents on effective leadership within the party.
Reddy claimed that the opposition “edited” his words to stir up a controversy. He expressed contentment that he was “gaining popularity” in North India.
The Chief Minister spoke to the press in Delhi after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Central ministers to extend invitations for the Telangana Rising Global Summit, set to happen in Hyderabad on December 8-9.
His remarks during the TPCC executive meeting ignited a backlash, with the BJP accusing him of disrespecting Hindus and their deities.
In response, the BJP organized protests throughout Telangana on Wednesday, demanding an apology from the Chief Minister for his statements.
He articulated his thoughts on how the Congress party embraces individuals with diverse perspectives, advising new DCC presidents to overlook trivial matters while fulfilling their responsibilities.
“The freedom within Congress has enabled it to thrive for 140 years. Without this freedom, it would have ceased to exist long ago, similar to other regional parties,” he stated.
“How many deities are there in Hinduism? Are there 3 crore? For instance, there is a deity for those who remain unmarried, another for those who marry multiple times, and one for those who consume alcohol. Offerings of Alcohol and Chicken are made to Yellamma, Pochamma, Maisamma, and there are also gods for those who eat Rice and Dal. Isn't that accurate? The Congress party also brings together individuals of varied mindsets,” he elaborated.
The BJP strongly condemned the remarks made by the Chief Minister.
The state BJP president, N. Ramchander Rao, accused Reddy of displaying his disdain for Hindus by using derogatory language against Hindu deities and making inappropriate comments about Hindu society.
