RSS Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal meet opens in Indore, anti-drug drive tops agenda
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) kicked off its three-day Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal meeting on Monday, 2 November 2026, at Daly College, Indore, with curbing drug abuse and reviewing the organisation's Panch Parivartan initiative at the forefront of deliberations. Around 408 senior office-bearers from across the country are attending the conclave, which runs until 4 November.
Key Issues on the Table
Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat and Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale are leading the gathering. The meeting is expected to deliberate on structured awareness campaigns aimed at keeping youth away from drugs, working through social and educational institutions. Sunil Ambekar, Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh, confirmed that the drug menace remains a central agenda item, noting that 'efforts at the social and familial levels are essential to tackle the problem.'
Various Sangh-inspired organisations have reportedly already launched anti-drug drives in their respective regions ahead of the formal deliberations.
Panch Parivartan: Five Themes, One Blueprint
As part of its centenary year, the RSS has articulated five transformative themes under Panch Parivartan — social harmony, an eco-friendly lifestyle, family strengthening, self-reliance, and civic duty. A concrete future action plan anchored to these themes is to be formulated before the meet concludes. According to Ambekar, more than 65,000 Hindu Sammelans were organised during the centenary year at neighbourhood and mandal levels, and the experiences gathered from those events will inform the direction of future activities.
Sangh's Expanding Footprint
The RSS disclosed that it has added over 13,000 new daily shakhas in the past year alone, taking the total count of daily shakhas to 1,01,151. When weekly and monthly gatherings are included, the Sangh's reach extends to 1,10,849 locations nationwide — a scale that underscores its organisational depth ahead of its centenary milestone.
Tributes, Statements and Overseas Outreach
At the opening session, Sarkaryavah Hosabale paid tribute to prominent public figures who passed away in recent months, including film actor Nana Patekar, singer Asha Bhosle, revered saint Ramesh Baba, and renowned singers S. Janaki and Suman Kalyanpurkar, among others.
On its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the RSS announced that Hosabale will issue three formal statements during the meet — marking the 200th birth anniversary of Rajnarayan Basu, the 100th anniversary of the martyrdom of Swami Shraddhanand, and the 100th birth anniversary of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, who worked for self-respect and self-reliance among the Kandhamal tribal community in Odisha.
The meeting will also review Mohan Bhagwat's overseas visits to the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom in August and September, during which he engaged with prominent individuals at conferences and presented the RSS's articulation of Hindutva.
What to Expect by 4 November
On the concluding day, office-bearers from the Sangh's 11 regions and 46 provinces — including Sanghchalaks, Karyavahs, and Pracharaks — will share detailed statistics and regional progress reports. The final action plan on Panch Parivartan themes and the anti-drug campaign roadmap are expected to be formalised at that stage.
