Jaipur, Dec 2 (NationPress) In a significant discussion, Rajya Sabha MP Madan Rathore raised critical concerns about the safety protocols of helicopter services during the Char Dham pilgrimage while addressing the House.

In reply, Civil Aviation Minister Murlidhar Mohol revealed that various enhanced measures have been instituted to bolster safety in helicopter operations.

The Minister highlighted the establishment of special control rooms at the Sahastradhara (Dehradun) and Sitapur (Kedarnath) helipads. These control rooms, staffed by a UCADA officer-in-charge, ATC officer, and IMD officer, are tasked with making go/no-go decisions based on real-time assessments of weather conditions and air traffic.

This integrated system has proven to be vital for ensuring the safety of pilgrims. MP Madan Rathore also requested information regarding helipad inspections and audits of operators.

Minister Mohol confirmed that the DGCA had inspected or audited seven helipads and six helicopter operators prior to the commencement of operations at Kedarnath. Furthermore, a thorough audit involving 12 operators and 10 helipads was conducted before approvals for Char Dham operations were granted.

To enhance situational awareness, additional weather cameras have been installed along the routes to Char Dham and Kedarnath, allowing for quicker detection of adverse weather.

The Minister assured that all flights during the post-monsoon season were conducted safely and efficiently, attributing this success to the initiatives by the DGCA which significantly improved operational reliability.

Rathore emphasized the deep connection between pilgrimage and India’s cultural heritage, asserting that ensuring maximum safety, transparency, and efficiency in these vital services is of utmost importance.

Expressing his contentment with the measures taken by the Ministry, he urged for the same level of commitment to be maintained for passenger safety in the future.

The Rajasthan MP further noted that the DGCA is actively working to implement standardized safety protocols across all helicopter services related to pilgrimage and tourism nationwide, highlighting amendments made to the 2023 Operational Circular to enforce this safety framework throughout the country.
