What Will Assam CM Reveal About Gaurav Gogoi’s Alleged Political Nexus?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 8 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to hold a significant press conference on Sunday, during which he will disclose what he refers to as a broader political nexus involving Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.
Sarma has launched a vigorous political attack regarding the alleged collaboration between the Congress party and the Akhil Gogoi-led Raijor Dal ahead of the Assembly elections, emphasizing that he believes the Opposition coalition has little chance of success in the state.
While speaking to the media at the inauguration of newly constructed school facilities earlier on Monday, Sarma indicated that the upcoming February 8 briefing would extend beyond previous allegations concerning Gaurav Gogoi’s purported “Pakistan link” and would unveil what he describes as the “entire network” related to it. He claimed that the press conference would feature “crucial disclosures” with significant political consequences.
In response to discussions surrounding a Congress–Raijor Dal alliance, the Chief Minister asserted that while Opposition leaders are entitled to form governments “anywhere else,” their prospects in Assam are nonexistent.
Taking a jab at Raijor Dal head Akhil Gogoi, Sarma stated that the latter would not have the capability to establish a government in Assam “even in 500 years.” He further accused Gaurav Gogoi of trying to coordinate with Akhil Gogoi and Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi in anticipation of a political retaliation following the Sunday press conference.
According to the Chief Minister, these maneuvers are solely intended to shield themselves from the impact of the BJP’s forthcoming revelations. In a pointed message to the Opposition leadership, Sarma noted that this is the “ideal time” for Akhil Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi to negotiate seat-sharing agreements, asserting that their political relevance would diminish post-February 8.
“They should seize whatever political advantage they can now, as the situation will shift after February 8,” he warned.
The Chief Minister’s comments have further escalated political tensions in Assam, with the political discourse intensifying as the state approaches the Assembly elections.
