Dhaka, Dec 20 (NationPress) The Chief Advisor of Bangladesh's interim government, Muhammad Yunus, disclosed on Saturday that seven individuals have been taken into custody regarding the lynching and violent murder of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das due to allegations of blasphemy.

In reference to the tragic incident involving the fatal beating of Dipu Chandra Das (27), a follower of Sanatan Dharma, in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, Yunus announced via a post on X that the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has apprehended these suspects.

The suspects have been named as Limon Sarkar, Tarek Hossain, Manik Mia, Ershad Ali, Nijum Uddin, Alomgir Hossain, and Miraj Hossain Akon.

The statement revealed that RAB-14 executed operations across various locales to detain these individuals.

This horrific event transpired on Thursday night at the Pioneer Knit Composite Factory, located in the Square Masterbari area of Bhaluka upazila.

The deceased, Dipu, was a factory worker and resided in Tarakanda Upazila of Mymensingh.

According to local reports and eyewitness accounts cited by the Bangladeshi media outlet Barta Bazar, Dipu was accused of making offensive remarks about Islam and Prophet Muhammad during a factory event celebrating World Arabic Language Day.

These accusations quickly escalated within the factory and surrounding community, igniting tensions. Dipu was subsequently attacked by an enraged mob and reportedly succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Eyewitness reports indicate that following his death, the situation became even more gruesome, with the mob transporting his body to the Square Masterbari bus stand, tying it to a tree, beating it while chanting slogans, and ultimately setting it on fire.

Bhaluka Upazila Executive Officer Md. Firoz Hossain confirmed the incident, stating that a man was killed over allegations of disrespecting the Prophet, and mentioned that the deceased's body is currently in police custody.

Former Minister and Awami League leader Mohammad Ali Arafat vehemently condemned the act, claiming that Bangladesh is progressively leaning towards full-blown radicalism under the governance of Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus.

The ongoing violence against minorities, particularly Hindus, has surged under the interim government led by Yunus, provoking widespread outrage among citizens and numerous international human rights organizations.
