Dhaka, Dec 20 (NationPress) Exiled Bangladeshi writer and human rights advocate Taslima Nasreen revealed on Saturday that Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das was horrifically lynched by a mob in Bangladesh after being falsely accused of blasphemy by a Muslim colleague at his workplace in Mymensingh district.
She noted that this tragic event occurred even while Dipu was supposedly under police protection.
Sharing a video of Dipu during his police protection on her platform X, Nasreen explained, "Dipu Chandra Das was employed at a factory in Bhaluka, Mymensingh. He was a struggling laborer. One day, a Muslim coworker sought to punish him over a minor issue and publicly claimed that Dipu had made disrespectful comments about the Prophet. That was all it took to incite violence."
"A mob of zealous adherents of the Prophet descended upon Dipu like wild animals, brutally attacking him. Eventually, the police intervened and took him into custody, which meant he was under their protection," she recounted.
Dipu reportedly informed the police about the incident, asserting his innocence and claiming he had never made any derogatory remarks about the Prophet, alleging it was all a plot by the coworker.
"The police did not pursue the coworker responsible. Some within the police may share sympathies with jihadist ideologies. Was their release of Dipu back to those extremists a result of this jihadist inclination? Or did jihadists forcefully take Dipu from the police station? They held a horrifying celebration, torturing him, hanging him, and setting him ablaze—a festival of jihadism," Nasreen expressed.
Highlighting that Dipu was the primary provider for his family, she pointed out that his income supported his disabled father, mother, wife, and child, raising urgent questions about their future and accountability for his brutal killing.
"Dipu Chandra Das was the only source of income for his family. With his earnings, his disabled father, mother, wife, and child survived. What will become of them now? Who will stand by the relatives? Who will bring the murderous mob to justice? Dipu's family lacks the resources to escape to India to evade jihadists. The impoverished have no one to turn to. They have lost their country, and even their faith may no longer protect them," Nasreen lamented.
