Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Jan 23 (NationPress) Weather patterns transformed across Rajasthan within the past 24 hours, with rainfall accompanied by lightning, thunder, and strong winds reported in numerous locations throughout the state. The peak rainfall of 13.0 mm was noted in Pushkar (Ajmer).
Additionally, light to moderate fog was observed in various regions across the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued both orange and yellow alerts for thunderstorms, strong winds, rainfall, and hailstorms across several districts. An orange alert is currently active for 14 districts, while 11 districts are under a yellow alert.
A warning regarding dense fog and cold wave conditions is also in effect starting January 25. Jaipur experienced its first winter rain of this season early Friday morning. The intermittent drizzle began around 5 a.m. and intensified into heavy rainfall by 6.30 a.m., accompanied by strong winds and thunder.
This rainfall resulted in a temperature drop of 2-3 degrees Celsius, bringing back a significant winter chill.
Heavy rain disrupted traffic in various parts of the city, affecting areas such as Tonk Road, Malviya Nagar, Jagatpura, JLN Marg, and nearby locales. Some localities also experienced brief power outages. Hailstorms were reported from multiple areas in Sikar district, including Kotri, Simarla, and Sargoth, where hailstones the size of chickpeas fell for approximately 10-15 minutes.
Similar weather conditions were noted in districts including Tonk, Nagaur, Alwar, and Jaipur, where intermittent rain and strong winds aggravated the cold.
In the last 24 hours, the lowest temperature recorded was in Jaisalmer at 6.2 degrees Celsius, while the highest was in Jawai Bandh (Pali) at 29.4 degrees Celsius.
Earlier on Thursday, light rain was documented in border districts such as Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Barmer, Ganganagar, and Jodhpur, with dense fog observed in northeastern districts like Ganganagar and Hanumangarh.
The IMD has cautioned that once the current rain spell ends, dense fog is expected to impact several districts, including Jaipur, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Nagaur, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and Hanumangarh. Residents are advised to exercise caution, particularly during early morning and late-night hours.
