Jaipur, July 28 (NationPress) Following a humid morning, Jaipur experienced a torrential downpour on Monday evening, leading to significant waterlogging and traffic chaos throughout the city. The Meteorological Department reported that the heavy rain commenced around 6:30 p.m., lasting for over an hour, with light drizzle persisting into the night.
This unexpected downpour during peak commuting hours left numerous travelers stranded, particularly those journeying from the city’s outskirts. Rainfall data collected until 8 p.m. indicated that the most intense rainfall was at IDR (Sinchai Bhawan), JLN Marg, which noted an impressive 111.5 mm.
At Jaipur Airport, 74.2 mm was recorded, while the IMD office reported 66.8 mm. Other areas of the city also experienced considerable rainfall, including 74 mm in Sanganer, 55 mm at the Collectorate, 27 mm in Chomu, 20 mm in Naraina, and 12 mm each in Amer and Fagi.
The effects of the rain were particularly evident on Sikar Road, where neighborhoods like Dhehar Ke Balaji and Jagdamba Colony encountered knee-deep water accumulation. The BRTS corridor and surrounding roads were inundated, severely disrupting traffic flow.
Despite the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) having installed a drainage system to channel water into the Amanishah drain, the intensity of the rainfall proved too much for the system in certain areas.
With additional rain anticipated shortly, authorities have advised residents to stay vigilant and take appropriate precautions. The Met Department has issued warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Udaipur, and Ajmer divisions.
Many districts in Rajasthan have been enduring continuous heavy rain over the last two days. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for more heavy rains in the next 48 hours, prompting precautionary actions across the state.
Consequently, school holidays have been announced in ten districts. A Red Alert was issued for extremely heavy rain in Baran, Bharatpur, Jhalawar, and Karauli.
An Orange Alert is currently in effect for Alwar, Banswara, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Dausa, Dholpur, Dungarpur, Kota, Pratapgarh, and Sawai Madhopur, while a Yellow Alert has been issued for Ajmer, Bhilwara, Jhunjhunu, Jaipur, Rajsamand, Sikar, Sirohi, Tonk, Udaipur, Bikaner, Churu, Hanumangarh, Jalore, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Pali, and Sriganganagar.
This heightened alert follows a tragic incident last Friday, when the wall and roof of a government school in Piplodi village, Jhalawar district, collapsed due to relentless rain, claiming the lives of seven children and injuring 21 others.
Local parents and residents have stated that prior complaints regarding the unsafe condition of the structure had been ignored by officials.
In Tonk, Dungarpur, Chittorgarh, Beawar, Pratapgarh, and Baran, schools will remain closed on Monday and Tuesday.
Schools in Ajmer were closed on Monday, while in Dholpur, classes will be suspended for three days starting from Monday. In Jhalawar, all schools will be shut from July 28 to August 2 due to ongoing heavy rainfall and safety concerns.
Authorities are on high alert, and parents have been urged to remain updated through official channels. The situation is under close scrutiny, and further decisions will depend on the evolving weather conditions.
