Key Takeaways
Varanasi, Feb 23 (NationPress) Political and religious sentiments escalated on Monday following reports that Prayagraj police allegedly visited the math of Shankaracharya Avimukteshwarananda. The seer has garnered support from numerous leaders and spiritual figures across various states after a case was filed against him under the Pocso Act on a court's orders.
In Varanasi, Samajwadi Party MP Virendra Singh paid a visit to the seer, expressing his unwavering support. “This is not merely a matter for the Samajwadi Party; the entire Kashi community and its residents stand united with the esteemed Shankaracharya ji,” the MP stated, noting that the allegations against the seer have caused him “deep pain.” He visited to check on the seer's health after securing an appointment.
“We will steadfastly support him. Whatever guidance Shankaracharya ji provides moving forward, we shall adhere to it,” Singh affirmed.
In Ujjain, International Hindu Council President Praveen Togadia called for harmony, citing his long-standing relationships with both the Shankaracharya and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, particularly with the late Mahant Avaidyanath.
Togadia expressed respect for both parties and shared his hope for an amicable resolution: “As both are distinguished personalities, I trust they will reconcile and resolve the issue,” he remarked.
In Mirzapur, Yoganand Giri Maharaj of Budhenath Sannyas Ashram, linked with the Juna Akhara, condemned the controversy, stating it tarnishes the reputation of Sanatan Dharma on a global scale.
He welcomed the court's order to file an FIR under the POCSO Act, emphasizing that a comprehensive investigation is essential to ensure that those at fault are held accountable.
Earlier, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav asserted that the FIR against Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati seemed politically motivated and intended to damage the reputation of a prominent Hindu leader.
He accused the initiative of being malicious, stemming from the controversies during the Magh Mela, and warned that such actions could exacerbate tensions in Uttar Pradesh, especially ahead of elections, thereby undermining public trust in the government.
The unfolding events have stirred significant political and religious attention across both Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
