Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 22 (NationPress) The head of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Akhilesh Yadav, vehemently criticized the Uttar Pradesh government this Sunday regarding an FIR filed against 'Shankaracharya' Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, alleging that the administration has maliciously aimed to discredit and humiliate the revered Hindu seer.
In a press conference held at the party headquarters, Akhilesh Yadav asserted that the state government, rather than addressing its irresponsible actions during the Magh Mela, has chosen to resurrect a two-decade-old case in an effort to target the 'Shankaracharya' of Jyotirmath, Uttarakhand.
"What kind of treatment is being given to our esteemed Shankaracharya ji by the government? This recent endeavor is clearly an attempt by certain individuals to feign respect," he stated, warning that such accusations are beneath the dignity of the discourse.
The FIR against Swami Avimukteshwaranand alleges that he and some disciples perpetrated sexual abuse and exploitation against two minors at his ashram over a prolonged period exceeding a year.
Akhilesh noted, "If the complainant is a disciple from another saint, then retracting a previously filed case was indeed a mistake."
The SP chief expressed that initially, the Shankaracharya was prevented from bathing in the Ganges during the Magh Mela, and upon his protest, the state government reacted in a manner that suggests both malice and retaliation.
"Despite harsh weather conditions, Swami Avimukteshwaranand protested for several days, yet the administration failed to accord him the respect he deserves. This entire situation appears to be driven by political malice, resulting in the government losing credibility with the public," he remarked.
Akhilesh further accused the ruling party of creating a toxic atmosphere in the state ahead of the elections.
He also condemned the Yogi government for its handling of various infrastructure projects, citing mismanagement and irregularities.
Akhilesh mentioned that his administration had initiated plans to clean the Gomti and Hindon rivers, but the current government is neglecting vital development projects.
"The underground pipeline initiative is merely a pipeline of corruption," he criticized, pointing out the soaring costs associated with developmental efforts.
Mocking Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s upcoming trip to Japan, he quipped, "He's heading to Japan, but not to Kyoto."
