Belagavi (Karnataka), Jan 21 (NationPress) Following the BJP's criticism of the Congress government regarding the law and order situation after an alleged gang-rape and robbery of a woman in central Bengaluru, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah raised a question about whether any rape cases were reported during the BJP's time in power.

While addressing reporters in Belagavi on Tuesday, CM Siddaramaiah stated, “Were there no incidents of rape during the BJP's administration? Rape incidents are unacceptable. Women deserve protection. However, there will always be anti-social elements in society who may commit such acts. We will ensure strict measures are taken against them.”

The gang-rape incident involving a woman waiting for a bus at K.R. Market in Bengaluru was reported on Tuesday. The victim filed a complaint at the Women's Police Station in the Central Division, alleging that she was sexually assaulted, and her gold jewellery, mobile phone, and cash were stolen.

Sources indicated that the incident took place on Sunday around 11:30 p.m. near Godown Street in the K.R. Market area. The police have apprehended one suspect in connection with the case and are currently interrogating him.

The victim was at the K.R. Market late at night, intending to travel to the Yelahanka area when she inquired with the accused about the bus services. Taking advantage of her vulnerability, the accused, under the guise of being helpful, offered to guide her to the bus stop.

They led her to Godown Street, where they assaulted her and committed robbery. The police have obtained CCTV footage from the vicinity and have initiated a search for the suspects. Further updates on the situation are anticipated.

Regarding the incident, BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra condemned the Congress-led government's inability to maintain law and order. “Karnataka has become a haven for criminals,” he asserted.

“Once celebrated for its culture, values, and safety, Karnataka is alarmingly becoming notorious as a center of crime and violence. The report of a gang-rape and robbery of a lone woman at K.R. Market in Bengaluru is a profoundly shocking and inhumane act. This incident underscores the deteriorating law and order in the state, which now struggles to protect its women,” he remarked.

“The ongoing series of murders, robberies, crimes against women, and rape cases have left the public disheartened and reflect the chaotic state of affairs. If such incidents persist, the people will undoubtedly react and hold this government accountable. The BJP in Karnataka is devoted to advocating for the safety and security of law and order in the state,” he concluded.
