Imphal, Jan 16 (NationPress) Six individuals suspected to be part of the Arambai Tenggol, a radical faction of the majority Meitei, along with two active operatives of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive Wing Group) were apprehended in Manipur, according to police reports on Thursday.

A police representative stated that the six suspected Arambai Tenggol members were taken into custody in relation to the abduction of one Md. Nawash (33) from his residence on January 14 at Heingang in Thoubal District for ransom purposes.

Regrettably, Md. Nawash was pronounced dead upon arrival at Thoubal District Hospital on January 15.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sagolsem Chingkheinganba Singh (25), Chingakham Sanatomba Singh (19), Sapam Somorjit Singh (32), Maibam Bokenjit Singh (24), Athokpam Jiban Singh (30), and Chingakham Mani Singh (41).

In response, the Arambai Tenggol asserted that their members had no involvement in the aforementioned incident, adding that they routinely hand over individuals engaged in drug trafficking to law enforcement.

In a separate operation, law enforcement apprehended two active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive Wing Group) from Uripok Mayai Leikai in Imphal West District on Wednesday night. They were named as Khangembam Sanaton Singh (51) and Thokchom Tiken Singh (43).

The KCP (PWG) members were implicated in extortion activities targeting various shops and showrooms in the Imphal area.

From the possession of the KCP (PWG) members, police recovered four mobile phones, four SIM cards, a side bag, two wallets, two Aadhaar cards, one vehicle, and cash amounting to Rs 5,140.

A police report indicated that a collaborative team from the Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, Forest Department, and an Executive Magistrate executed a poppy destruction operation at Haopi Mollen Hill range in Churachandpur district, resulting in the destruction of 4.8 acres and the seizure of poppy pods. An FIR has been lodged, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the cultivators.
