Imphal, September 1 (NationPress) – In a significant operation, security forces in Manipur have apprehended two individuals affiliated with ‘Arambai Tenggol’, a radical faction within the Meitei community, alongside three militants. Authorities reported recovering a substantial arsenal of arms and ammunition across various districts over the last 24 hours.
According to an official, the Manipur Police detained the two members in the Imphal West district. The detainees, identified as Laishram Tondomba Singh (27) and Tourangbam Amarjit Meitei (20), also known as Yaima, are both residents of Thoubal district.
These individuals are accused of possessing illegal firearms intended for weapon trafficking and other unlawful activities, as stated by the official.
During the operation, police seized seven HK33 Rifles, two M4A1 Carbines, two GLOCK .45 automatic pistols, and a significant amount of assorted ammunition.
In a separate development, responding to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla's appeal for the surrender of illegally acquired weapons, members of ‘Arambai Tenggol’ returned 246 high-quality firearms on February 27 at the First Manipur Rifle Campus in Imphal.
Additionally, security forces arrested three core militants belonging to the outlawed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) from both Imphal East and Imphal West districts. Various Aadhaar cards and incriminating documents were found in their possession.
Moreover, a large cache of diverse ammunition, including three high-powered grenades and 53 rounds of various calibers, was recovered in Imphal West District.
Security forces also apprehended four drug traffickers from Churachandpur and Tengnoupal districts, seizing brown sugar hidden in 24 soap cases and 3.38 kg of highly addictive methamphetamine tablets.
Officials suspect that the narcotics were smuggled from Myanmar, which shares a lengthy 398 km unfenced border with Manipur.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to ongoing search operations and area monitoring across vulnerable districts. A total of 113 Nakas/Checkpoints have been established in various regions of Manipur, yet no detentions were reported at these locations over the past 24 hours.
In light of recent events, Manipur Police have issued a warning against the dissemination of rumors and misleading videos, urging the public to verify information through the Central Control Room.
