Manipur: Security Forces Capture Three Key Members of Banned Militant Group

Imphal, Dec 12 (NationPress) A combined team of security forces has successfully apprehended three high-ranking members of the outlawed militant group People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak-Pro) in the Thoubal district of Manipur, as confirmed by officials on Thursday.

A police representative stated that the detained militants were engaged in extorting money from local residents and merchants, as well as in the illegal possession of weapons.

The official revealed that a coordinated operation involving the Manipur police Commando and a unit of the Assam Rifles, supported by senior officials, was launched based on reliable information. The operation took place in Thoubal Athokpam on Wednesday night, resulting in the arrest of the three active members of the illegal outfit.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Nambram Indrajit Singh (22), Rajkumar Mohen Sana (21), and Warepam Albert Meitei (21).

Authorities recovered advanced firearms and ammunition, along with three mobile devices and one motorcycle from their possession, as reported by the police official.

During questioning, the captured militants admitted to their involvement in extortion activities targeting schools, colleges, government offices, and local businesses in Thoubal district, under the direction of their leader Sinthoiba, the official noted.

The detained militants and the seized weapons were subsequently handed over to the Thoubal Police Station for necessary legal proceedings against the extremists.

In related operations, combined forces of the Army, Assam Rifles, and other central units discovered 10 sophisticated firearms and a stockpile of ammunition in the Churachandpur and Chandel districts.

Meanwhile, approximately 2,000 personnel from the Army and Assam Rifles are actively searching for Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, a 56-year-old Meitei man, who has been missing since November 25.

The Army has deployed tracker dogs, drones, and other technologies as part of the search initiative.

Both the Joint Action Committee (JAC) and the Meira Paibis (women's vigilante groups in Manipur) have appealed to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for assistance in rescuing Kamalbabu Singh.

The Meira Paibis and the JAC are conducting separate protests against the abduction of Kamalbabu Singh.

Singh, who resides in Gossaipur within Cachar district of southern Assam, was staying in Loitang Khunou village, Imphal West district. He went missing after leaving his home on November 25 for the Leimakhong military station, where he was employed as a supervisor for a contractor associated with the Military Engineering Services (MES).

Various organizations from the Meitei community have alleged that Singh was kidnapped by Kuki militants.
