Imphal, March 23 (NationPress) The Manipur Police have detained four militants from the banned United National Liberation Front (P) (UNLF-Pambei) and two members of the radical Meitei group Arambai Tenggol after a tumultuous clash in the Imphal East district. This information was confirmed by the police on Sunday.

A police spokesperson indicated that security personnel apprehended the two Arambai Tenggol (AT) members, identified as Kshetrimayum Nikhil Singh (28) and Yumnam Pringanba Singh (23), in the Moirangkampu Sajed Awang Leikai area, related to the altercation that occurred on Saturday between AT and UNLF (P) at Kongpal Khong.

Ongoing operations are in place to capture additional suspects involved in the violent event, which resulted in injuries to four UNLF (P) cadres, already taken into custody on Saturday. The injured militants are currently receiving medical attention at a local hospital.

During the clash on Saturday, approximately 15-20 members of AT invaded the home of a UNLF (P) militant, Irengbam Nandakumar Singh (56), located in Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai, leading to severe injuries among four cadres from the Imphal Valley-based organization.

In response to the incident, security forces conducted a raid on an AT office in the Khurai area of Imphal East district, confiscating three vehicles, 15 grams of suspected heroin, eight bulletproof plates, three wireless communication devices, an INSAS bayonet, two .303 bayonets, two swords, and various incriminating documents.

The controversial Meitei radical group Arambai Tenggol has played a significant role in the ethnic clashes between the Meitei and the Kuki-Zo-Hmar communities since May 2023.

In a response to the appeal from Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla regarding the return of stolen and illegally possessed firearms, Arambai Tenggol members successfully returned 246 advanced firearms along with a substantial amount of ammunition and other military materials last month in Imphal.
