Bhubaneswar, Sep 25 (NationPress) Tragically, six individuals, including three women, lost their lives in a devastating accident involving a truck and a bus in the K Balanga region of Odisha's Sundargarh district on Thursday.
Reports from local residents indicate that the passenger bus was en route from Rourkela to the Koida area when a speeding truck, traveling in the opposite direction on National Highway-520, collided with it head-on.
Local sources disclosed that the incident occurred as the bus attempted to navigate on the wrong side of the road to circumvent a traffic jam at Raxi, located under the jurisdiction of K Balanga police station.
Emergency responders, including local police and fire services, arrived promptly to assist passengers trapped within the bus.
The injured were quickly transported to a nearby hospital in Lahunipara, where medical staff pronounced five individuals as 'brought dead.'
Another victim, identified as Suru Munda, died from injuries while being transferred to IGH hospital in Rourkela.
The deceased have been named as Puspa Gope, Sabal Bala, Mery Nag, Satyabhama Thakur, and Karanpal Singh.
According to information received, a bus labeled Lingaraj from Rourkela was heading towards Koida when it veered onto the wrong side of the road to evade a traffic jam caused by heavy rains at Raxi, colliding with an oncoming truck. Reports confirm the tragic loss of six lives.
“Approximately 10 to 12 injured passengers were admitted to the hospital in Lahunipara, and efforts are underway to transfer critically injured individuals to Rourkela. Two platoons of police have been dispatched to the accident site to alleviate the traffic congestion resulting from this devastating incident,” stated DIG of Police (Western Range) Brijesh Kumar Rai.
