Mumbai, May 22 (NationPress) Playback singer Sonu Nigam has taken a stand against the media after a publication incorrectly attributed remarks to him regarding a language controversy. On Thursday, he posted on his Instagram, sharing screenshots that reveal an imposter account impersonating him on social media, engaging with Tejasvi Surya, a Member of the Lok Sabha from Bengaluru.
In these screenshots, the fake account is seen arguing with Tejasvi’s comments. Tejasvi Surya had expressed his discontent regarding the Branch Manager of SBI for not using the local language while interacting with customers in Karnataka.
He stated, “This behaviour by @TheOfficialSBI Branch Manager is simply not acceptable. If you are doing customer interface work in Karnataka, especially in a sector like banking, it is important to communicate to customers in the language they know. Being adamant like this is simply not right.”
Tejasvi further criticized the lack of enforcement regarding the policy requiring local language knowledge among banking staff, urging immediate implementation of this policy by SBI.
The imposter account responded to Tejasvi, saying, “Don't dub Kannada movies in Hindi! Don't release Kannada movies pan-India! Do you have the guts to say this to Kannada film stars, Mr. @Tejasvi_Surya, or are you just another language warrior?”
Sonu slammed the media for misattributing this tweet to him, emphasizing that he has repeatedly clarified that he is not active on X (formerly Twitter). He expressed his frustration by stating, “Are you out of your mind? How many times have I declared I am not on Twitter? Spreading misinformation on my name is only going to poison the minds of people who have loved me all these years. Not everyone will have the sense to fact-check your news. I'm truly done with this country's desperate and brutal media. Shame.”
Previously, Sonu had faced criticism from an individual in Bengaluru who suggested he perform Kannada songs during his concerts. Following this, he issued a clarification regarding allegations against him for making provocative remarks that might hurt the sentiments of Kannada speakers.
This situation escalated when an FIR was lodged against him at the Avalahalli Police Station in Bengaluru, alleging that he had made an objectionable statement linking the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam to the Kannada language.
In response, Sonu took to Instagram to clarify that only a few fringe elements in the audience were disruptive and that the majority were respectful, emphasizing that such behavior should be addressed firmly.
