Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 16 (NationPress) - A SpiceJet airplane encountered a collision with a parked Akasa Air aircraft at the Delhi airport on Thursday afternoon. Fortunately, the incident resulted in only minor damages to both planes, and there were no reported injuries.
The collision occurred at approximately 2:15 pm as the SpiceJet aircraft, which had just arrived from Leh, was in the process of taxiing to its assigned gate. During this maneuver, it struck the Akasa Air plane, which was getting ready for its departure to Hyderabad.
Initial assessments indicate that the right winglet of the SpiceJet plane was damaged, while the left horizontal stabilizer of the Akasa Air aircraft suffered impact during the incident.
An official representative from Akasa Air stated that their aircraft, operating flight QP 1406 from Delhi to Hyderabad, had to return to the bay after the collision.
Reports suggest that the Akasa Air plane was stationary at the time of the impact.
“The Akasa Air aircraft operating flight QP 1406 heading to Hyderabad was forced to return to the bay on April 16. Preliminary investigations suggest that the Akasa aircraft was stationary when another airline’s plane collided with it,” the spokesperson noted.
It was confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated, with alternative arrangements being made to ensure passengers reach Hyderabad as soon as possible.
Akasa Air has stated that the relevant authorities have been notified and an investigation is currently underway, emphasizing that the safety and security of its passengers and crew is their utmost priority.
“In accordance with established protocols, the relevant authorities are informed, and we are actively investigating the matter,” the airline’s statement read.
“At Akasa Air, the safety and security of our passengers and crew remain our highest priority,” the spokesperson reiterated.
