Srinagar, March 3 (NationPress) - On Tuesday, the police in the Srinagar district of Jammu and Kashmir announced that they have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) in response to the intentional dissemination of misleading and fabricated information aimed at deceiving the public.
The Srinagar Police have taken a firm stance against the intentional spread of false, altered, and misleading narratives by specific news channels, media entities, and individuals on various electronic and social media platforms.
These parties are systematically working to propagate distorted narratives and unverified information with the evident goal of inciting unrest, disrupting public order, and fostering division within society, stated a police spokesperson.
Such harmful misinformation campaigns present a significant risk to the peace, security, and integrity of the nation, the spokesperson emphasized, adding that the Srinagar Police have registered an FIR at the Cyber Police Station under pertinent legal frameworks.
Numerous profiles have been identified, and the individuals involved have been summoned to the Cyber Cell, as per the spokesperson's remarks.
Investigations are actively ongoing, and stringent legal actions will ensue against anyone found complicit in these activities.
The Srinagar Police cautioned that disseminating fake news, incendiary content, or unverified information will lead to severe legal repercussions.
"We advise citizens and media organizations to practice responsibility and verify facts solely from official and credible sources before sharing any content that could disrupt communal harmony or public order. The Srinagar Police are committed to upholding law and order and will not permit any attempts to compromise peace in the region," the spokesperson assured.
To maintain public order, authorities imposed restrictions throughout the entire Kashmir Valley on Tuesday.
All educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, have been closed, with the University of Kashmir postponing exams scheduled for the day.
Internet speeds across the Valley have been reduced to deter miscreants and anti-national elements from sharing provocative content on social media.
A significant deployment of security forces has been established at sensitive areas to preserve law and order.
