Will Mumbaikars Support Mahayuti in BMC Elections?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, expressed his support for the BJP-Shiv Sena candidates nominated for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. He emphasized that the ruling Mahayuti alliance is optimistic that the citizens of Mumbai will rally behind them and secure a significant victory for all candidates.
This statement came late Monday night after the finalization of the seat distribution for the BJP and Shiv Sena in Mumbai, with the BJP contesting 137 seats and Shiv Sena 90 seats. The Mahayuti alliance will also include representatives from other allied parties.
In a message shared on X, the Chief Minister stated, “Under the esteemed leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are dedicated to the advancement of Mumbai. The residents of this city are well aware of the initiatives undertaken to enhance their living conditions. Consequently, we are confident that Mumbaikars will steadfastly support the Mahayuti and elect all its candidates with overwhelming majority. Best wishes to all candidates.”
Previously, the seat-sharing agreement was jointly announced by Mumbai BJP chief Amit Satam and former Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale. “The discussions on seat-sharing among the BJP, Shiv Sena, and RPI were concluded today. A consensus was achieved on 207 seats earlier, and now the arrangement is finalized. The BJP will contest 137 seats, and Shiv Sena 90 seats, with allies receiving tickets from the respective quotas,” Satam reported.
He further mentioned, “We will run a unified campaign and raise the Hindutva flag over the BMC by engaging voters. With the voters’ blessings, the Mahayuti Mayor, who will represent Mumbaikars, will assume office post-elections.”
Satam reconfirmed that the allies of both the BJP and Shiv Sena will be accommodated within their respective quotas without dissent over ticket distribution.
“We reached a consensus after thorough discussions,” he added.
This seat-sharing arrangement comes as Uddhav and Raj Thackeray revealed an alliance last week for the BMC elections, aimed at countering the BJP-led Mahayuti. However, the Mahayuti alliance has dismissed the collaboration between the two Thackeray cousins, asserting that their alliance is merely a pursuit of power while the Mahayuti remains committed to Mumbai’s development.
Notably, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP is not part of the Mahayuti as it is contesting the BMC elections independently.
