Ahmedabad, March 15 (NationPress) In a remarkable display of skill, Saptak Talwar clinched the title at the DP World PGTI’s Indorama Ventures Open Golf Championship 2026 with a stellar final round score of two-under 70. This prestigious tournament, boasting a prize pool of US$300,000 (approximately INR 2.7 crore), wrapped up in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
The 27-year-old golfer from Greater Noida, who had a total score of 10-under 278 for the tournament (68-71-69-70), emerged victorious by two shots at the Kalhaar Blues & Greens Golf Club. His triumph translates into a prize money of US$48,000 (around INR 43,20,000), elevating him from 44th to the top position in the DP World PGTI Order of Merit.
Originally from the Jaypee Greens Golf Resort, Talwar now leads the merit list with total earnings of INR 46,00,200 this season.
Austrian player Christoph Bleier (69-70-72-69), who started the final round tied for seventh and three strokes off the lead, delivered a strong performance with a last round of three-under 69, finishing as the runner-up at eight-under 280.
Indian golfer Veer Ahlawat and teenager Kartik Singh both finished tied for third with scores of two-under 70, totaling seven-under 281. Clement Sordet from France secured fifth place at six-under 282, while overnight co-leader Dhruv Sheoran ended the tournament in a tie for sixth at five-under 283.
Talwar, who shared the lead with Sheoran going into the final round, performed consistently throughout the tournament. He excelled on the Par-5 holes, reaching the greens in two shots and two-putting on the fifth and eighth holes.
Despite a setback when he encountered water on the ninth hole, resulting in a bogey, Talwar regained momentum with a remarkable birdie on the Par-5 14th hole. He maintained his composure throughout the round, while his closest competitors faced varying challenges.
Reflecting on his victory, Talwar stated, “After my birdie on the 14th and par on the 15th, my confidence soared. The key to my success was minimizing errors, as I only made four bogeys over the entire tournament on a course that posed significant challenges.”
He added, “I had been performing well on the HotelPlanner Tour last year, often contending but unable to complete four solid rounds. Competing in tough international conditions has significantly enhanced my abilities, particularly in ball control. This exposure has been crucial in elevating my game, culminating in this win.”
In contrast, Ahmedabad’s Dhruv Suri finished in 61st place with a score of 18-over 306.
