Greater Noida, April 4 (NationPress) Saptak Talwar from Greater Noida has finally claimed his first title, showcasing his skill by defeating his closest competitors at his home course with an impeccable final round score of five-under 67 during the Rs 1.5 crore Adani Invitational Golf Championship 2025, held at the Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort.
The 26-year-old Talwar's impressive round (67-72-69-67) propelled him two positions upward from his overnight third place. Having previously secured two runner-up finishes on the PGTI since turning professional in 2021, he concluded the tournament with a remarkable total of 13-under 275, clinching victory by a single stroke.
“I recall the last PGTI event here in 2013 when I came to watch the final round while preparing for my exams. Those memories are still vivid. Winning my first title at Jaypee Greens during the Adani Invitational is a fantastic feeling,” Talwar shared with IANS.
Talwar, who attended Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, USA, before turning pro, received a winning prize of INR 22,50,000, which elevated him from seventh to fourth in the PGTI Order of Merit.
Overnight co-leaders Arjun Prasad (68-69-69-70) from Delhi and Yuvraj Sandhu (70-67-69-71) from Chandigarh finished in second and third place with scores of 12-under 276 and 11-under 277 respectively.
Starting the final round two strokes off the lead, Talwar made a strong beginning by scoring birdies on the first two par-5 holes, the second and fourth. He added two more birdies on the fifth and tenth, effectively utilizing his wedges. He narrowly missed a five-foot eagle putt on the par-5 twelfth but secured his fifth birdie of the day there.
Despite facing challenges earlier in the week with three three-putts for bogeys, Talwar managed to secure pars on the last six holes. A crucial eight-foot par save on the sixteenth bolstered his momentum and ensured a bogey-free card.
Arjun, also in search of his first title, made five birdies but had three bogeys during his final round of 70. He had a chance to force a playoff but bogeyed the last hole.
“The tournament was fantastic and exceptionally organized. Having Adani as a sponsor is great. Regarding my performance, I played well but fell short towards the end. Nevertheless, I'm pleased with my performance this season,” Arjun commented to IANS.
Yuvraj Sandhu, a two-time PGTI winner this season, recorded five birdies on the last day but an early double-bogey and two bogeys on the back nine disqualified him from contention as he finished with a 71.
A highlight of the event was a hole-in-one by Sri Lankan N Thangaraja on the fourteenth hole during his final round of 71, earning him a tie for 17th place at two-under 286.
Nineteen-year-old Sukhman Singh from Greater Noida was the only amateur to make the cut and was awarded for the best amateur performance, finishing the week at six-over 294 to tie for 46th.
Present at the event, Adani Enterprises Director Pranav Adani praised the organization of the tournament and congratulated the winners. “It’s a privilege for us as the Adani Group to partner with PGTI for the Adani Invitational Championship Cup. We believe that a growing India needs sportsmen who can bring pride to the nation,” said Adani during the awards ceremony.
