Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections: Nomination Process Kicks Off with New Guidelines
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 30 (NationPress) The initiation of nomination paper submissions for the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections kicked off on Monday, signifying a pivotal moment in the electoral timeline. Election officials have established comprehensive protocols to guarantee a smooth and transparent nomination process in all constituencies.
As per the guidelines, candidates intending to submit their nominations must comply with specific regulations. Only three vehicles will be allowed to accompany a candidate, and these vehicles must be stationed at a minimum distance of 100 metres from the Returning Officer's office.
Moreover, entry into the office for submitting nomination papers will be restricted to the candidate and up to three support personnel.
An eight-day period has been designated for filing nominations; however, due to public holidays, only four working days will be available for submissions.
Candidates are encouraged to strategize their schedules to prevent any last-minute issues.
To enhance accessibility, the Election Commission has introduced an online submission option for nomination forms via its official website. Nonetheless, candidates must ensure that the physical copies of their nomination papers are delivered in person to the Returning Officer within the specified timeframe.
Accuracy in completing nomination forms is crucial, as officials have stressed that candidates must ensure all details, including names and personal information, are entered correctly to avoid rejection during the validation process.
In this election cycle, ballot units in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will showcase a color photograph of each candidate. Thus, candidates are required to attach a recent photograph—captured within the last three months—to their nomination papers.
A sworn affidavit outlining their credentials must also be submitted by 3 p.m. on April 6, the final day for filing nominations.
The scrutiny of these nomination papers is set for April 7, with April 9 designated as the last day for candidates to withdraw their nominations.
The Tamil Nadu assembly elections are slated for April 23, with results expected to be announced on May 4.
Election officials have reassured that all necessary arrangements are in place for a seamless nomination process, urging candidates to fully comply with the established guidelines to ensure an efficient experience.
