Jaipur, Dec 1 (NationPress) In a stunning performance, Tanya Choudhary from Chandigarh University shattered her own previous meet and All India University (AIU) record to win the gold medal in the women's hammer throw event. During the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) Rajasthan 2025, held at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Keerthana from Jain University and Rushiprasad Desai from Shivaji University were also recognized as the fastest female and male athletes, respectively.
The fifth edition of KIUG 2025 is currently taking place across seven cities in Rajasthan, featuring an impressive 4448 athletes from 222 universities competing in 23 medal events. The Games are organized under the guidance of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in partnership with the Rajasthan State Sports Council and are hosted by Poornima University.
Tanya Choudhary, who has also participated in the Hangzhou Asian Games, achieved a remarkable throw of 64.29 meters, setting a new All India University record and securing her third consecutive medal in KIUG. Previously, she held the KIUG meet record at 60.61 meters. Haqikat Kaur Grewa from Panjab University earned the silver medal with a distance of 51.90 meters, while Aman Deep Kaur from Punjabi University claimed bronze with a throw of 45.06 meters.
“My goal was to set a new national record, but the outcome was different. Nonetheless, I am thrilled to win my third consecutive gold at the Khelo India University Games,” Grewa expressed in an interview with SAI Media.
In addition to Tanya's victory, Chandigarh University also secured gold in the women’s shot put, with Shiksha achieving a throw of 15 meters. With a total of 13 gold medals, Chandigarh University is currently in fourth place overall, while Guru Nanak Dev University leads with 30 gold, 10 silver, and 12 bronze medals.
In the evening session, Keerthana clinched Jain University’s first gold outside swimming by winning the women’s 100m with a time of 11.94 seconds. Teena Pareek from Lovely Professional University and Samriti Jamwal from Himachal Pradesh University took silver and bronze, finishing in 12.18 seconds and 12.21 seconds, respectively.
Rushiprasad Desai secured the men’s 100m gold medal with a time of 10.53 seconds, while Laukik Melge from Savitribai Phule Pune University and Jai Bhoir from Somaiya Vidyavihar won the silver and bronze with times of 10.59 seconds and 10.86 seconds.
Earlier, Busra Khan from Rabindranath Tagore University became the first gold medallist in track and field events by winning the women’s 5000m with a time of 18:15.27. Pawara Rink Dhany of Kavayitri Bahinabai University secured silver with a time of 18:20.52.
In the men's 5000m, Trilok Kumar from Lalit Narayan Mithila University took the gold with a time of 15:06.16, while Gaurav Yadav from Deen Dayal Upadhyay University won silver at 15:49.23.
At the Poornima University football ground, Guru Nanak University is set to face Chaudhary Bansilal University from Bhiwani in the women’s finals. In the semifinals, Guru Nanak Dev University triumphed over Lovely Professional University 2-1, while Chaudhary Bansilal University edged out Guru Jambheshwar University 1-0.
