Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Feb 22 (NationPress) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday refuted the claims made by BRS President and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and former minister T. Harish Rao that he is aiding Andhra Pradesh in diverting river waters, asserting that there will be no compromise on the state’s water rights.
He encouraged BRS leaders to refrain from politicizing essential matters concerning the public and water by making baseless accusations.
While addressing a meeting to evaluate the Devadula project in the Mulugu district, the Chief Minister emphasized that he and his ministers engage in discussions with neighboring states while prioritizing Telangana’s interests.
He indicated that the government is prepared to address the Godavari River water issue during the upcoming Budget session of the Assembly, encouraging KCR and Harish Rao to contribute their valuable insights.
CM Reddy expressed that the Godavari water controversy has become overly politicized. He criticized BRS leaders, stating that if projects were executed during their decade-long governance, disputes would have been avoided.
He noted that efforts to utilize 960 TMC of water should have already been made. He urged that the completion of these projects is essential for the state's prosperity.
The Chief Minister observed that the BRS government allocated Rs 1.10 lakh crore to the Kaleshwaram project while neglecting other crucial projects. Following the sinking of the Medigadda barrage, water could no longer be drawn from Kaleshwaram, rendering it ineffective, yet the state continues to produce the highest quantity of paddy.
He revealed that an expert committee has been established to assess the Kaleshwaram project. "We will ensure the Kaleshwaram project is not left unused. Agencies are reviewing all factors, and we are implementing measures to avert future issues," he stated.
"Kaleswaram is not private property; it belongs to the people. We must not waste it. We will restore its functionality," he added.
He acknowledged the funds shortage impacting project completions but assured that all outstanding projects would be finalized within two years, announcing that funds would be released shortly.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the Devadula project initially estimated at Rs 6,000 crore has ballooned to Rs 18,500 crore. He pledged that Rs 600 crore would be allocated before June 2 for land acquisition.
He emphasized that all estimates should be presented to the government for Budget approval and confirmed a special corpus fund for land acquisition across all projects. He mentioned that compensation would be expedited through a green channel to prevent land issues from delaying project progress.
Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Seethakka, MP Balram Naik, local MLAs, and other leaders joined the Chief Minister.
