Telangana Police's #StandWithHer campaign calls men to end bystander silence

The Telangana Police's Women Safety Wing launched the #StandWithHer campaign on 12 May, asserting that silence in the face of harassment is itself a form of complicity and that standing up for women is every citizen's civic duty. The initiative, led by Director General Charu Sinha of the Women Safety Wing, is deliberately engaging men as active partners rather than passive observers in the movement for women's safety across Telangana.

What the Campaign Stands For

At its core, #StandWithHer challenges the notion that women's safety can be guaranteed through policing and legislation alone. According to an official release from the Women Safety Wing, lasting protection requires a fundamental shift in the mindset of every man in society. The campaign targets everyday conduct — from workplace body shaming and mockery of professional success to online harassment and the non-consensual sharing of women's photographs or videos on social media.

The initiative firmly asserts that men who witness wrongdoing and choose to stay silent are, in effect, offering indirect support to the perpetrator. It calls on men to evolve from passive spectators into leaders of meaningful social change.

Celebrities and Influencers Amplify the Message

The digital campaign has drawn an overwhelming response from across the state, with film personalities and social media influencers voluntarily stepping forward. Actor Adivi Sesh compared the internet to a vast ocean and described online harassment, indecent comments, and trolling directed at women as sand clinging to it — urging every man to take personal responsibility for wiping it away.

Influencers including Virajita, Deepak Karamungiker, Sharath-Nisha Nalla, and Chillar Boy have amplified the campaign's reach through widely shared videos. Their content reinforces a pointed message: seeking a woman's consent before sharing her photo or video online is not mere courtesy — it is her fundamental right.
