Has Actor Sivaji Been Summoned by Telangana Women’s Commission for His Comments?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Dec 23 (NationPress) The Telangana State Commission for Women has issued a summons to film actor Sivaji following his allegedly derogatory remarks about women.
The actor is mandated to appear before the Commission at 11 a.m. on December 27.
This action comes after the Commission initiated a suo motu case against Sivaji for his comments during the promotional event of the film ‘Dhandora’ on Monday.
The Commission noted that his remarks seemed to be disrespectful to women in general, particularly to the women of Telangana.
“Having found prima facie evidence that you have made such a statement with the intention to defame women in society, the Commission has taken suo-motu cognizance and decided to conduct an enquiry under section 16 (1) (b) of the Telangana Women's Commission Act-1998,” said the Commission secretary.
Sivaji has been instructed to appear personally and bring any relevant materials related to the issue to assist in the inquiry.
During the promotional event for his upcoming film, Sivaji stirred controversy with his comments on women's fashion, stating that women appear most beautiful in traditional clothing, specifically a saree.
He remarked that while people might compliment a woman's facial features, they could also secretly criticize her for not dressing more modestly.
In response to backlash, Sivaji issued an apology, stating in a video that he used a few inappropriate words while trying to convey a positive message.
He clarified that his comments were not aimed at all women but suggested that actresses might avoid problems by dressing more conservatively.
“My intention was never to insult anyone, but I sincerely apologize for the two inappropriate words I used,” he stated.
He emphasized his respect for women and highlighted the need for society to uplift rather than look down on them.
