Should Women Allow Others to Dictate Their Fashion Choices? Vishwak Sen Speaks Out
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Dec 24 (NationPress) Actor and director Vishwak Sen strongly criticized actor Sivaji for his remarks suggesting women should wear sarees or fully covered dresses instead of revealing outfits. He emphasized that women should not be subject to anyone's judgment regarding their clothing choices.
In a post on his X account, Vishwak Sen stated, "Opinions are abundant, but some should remain unexpressed. This individual must cease spreading such harmful ideologies. Women don’t need anyone dictating their attire or how they should be perceived." He asserted that he does not represent genuine men.
Vishwak Sen joins the list of celebrities condemning Sivaji, who has faced severe backlash for his comments made during a promotional event for his film 'Dhandoraa'. Following widespread criticism, Sivaji has issued an apology.
Actor Manchu Manoj, who also addressed the issue, remarked that monitoring women's attire or placing moral obligations on them is "outdated and unacceptable".
On his X timeline, he expressed, "I encountered some profoundly disappointing remarks last night. A civilized society supports women’s rights rather than policing their decisions. #RespectWomen #RespectYourself."
In his statement, Manchu Manoj reiterated, "Such remarks are profoundly disappointing. Regulating women's clothing or imposing moral accountability on them is not only outdated but unacceptable."
He further highlighted that respect and accountability should begin with individual behavior, not by shaming women for their attire. Public figures must communicate responsibly, especially as their words have societal implications.
The actor asserted that such comments breach Articles 14, 15, and 21 of the Indian constitution, all of which protect the fundamental rights of Indian citizens.
He stated, "Statements like these violate the essence of Articles 14, 15, and 21 of the Constitution of India. Equality, dignity, and personal liberty are non-negotiable; women’s attire is not subject to societal scrutiny."
He then apologized on behalf of senior actors whose statements, he claimed, had "demeaned women and objectified them."
"I sincerely apologize on behalf of those senior actors whose derogatory remarks have belittled women and reduced them to mere objects. Such sentiments do not embody all men. We cannot, and will not, accept or overlook this behavior. Women deserve respect, dignity, and equality at all times. Silence is not an option; accountability is crucial," he concluded.
