Mumbai, Jan 21 (NationPress) After their recent collaboration for the BMC elections earlier this month, the Thackeray cousins, comprising Shiv Sena-UBT president Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, are set to appear together publicly again on January 23, commemorating the birth anniversary of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray.

This year holds particular importance as it signifies the commencement of Bal Thackeray's centenary year (100th anniversary).

This gathering marks their first significant joint appearance since the BMC elections held on January 15, 2026.

Although the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance won a majority in those elections, the Thackeray cousins are anticipated to utilize this occasion to unveil their future plans for the upcoming statewide municipal and local body elections. Shiv Sena-UBT secured 65 seats while MNS garnered six in the BMC elections.

The reunion of 'Shiv Shakti' (as the UBT-MNS alliance is known) on January 23 is drawing significant attention for various reasons.

In spite of the BMC outcomes, the cousins are demonstrating that their alliance transcends a single election, aiming for a lasting commitment to 'Marathi Manoos' politics.

Uddhav reiterated that, regardless of the BMC poll results, their alliance is intended to remain intact.

Uddhav indicated that the partnership with Raj is not a fleeting 'election-only' arrangement. He emphasized that the battle for the 'Marathi Manoos' and the dignity of Mumbai is an enduring struggle.

"This fight is far from over. It will persist until the Marathi individual receives the respect they rightfully deserve," Uddhav stated.

He mentioned that while the aspiration to elect a Shiv Sena (UBT) Mayor was not realized this time, the election results reaffirmed that the 'loyalty of the ground-level worker' cannot be compromised.

Unlike in previous years where he may have distanced himself after a loss, Raj Thackeray expressed that his collaboration with Uddhav Thackeray is a part of a longer ideological battle.

He mentioned that the struggle for Marathi identity, language, and the 'Marathi Manoos' is fundamental to their existence, adding, "You all are well aware that such battles are long-term."

By commemorating Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray's centenary jointly, they are striving to reinforce the original Shiv Sena vote bank, which has been fragmented since the 2022 party rebellion, while also preserving the 'Brand Thackeray' legacy.

Political analysts predict a potential 'joint manifesto' or a declaration of a common minimum program by the Thackeray cousins for the upcoming 2026 local body elections throughout Maharashtra.

The elections for the 12 zilla parishads and 125 panchayat samitis are scheduled for February 5 with counting on February 7.
