Mumbai, July 19 (NationPress) Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray fiercely criticized Shiv Sena chairperson and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde along with the Mahayuti government, asserting that Thackeray transcends mere branding and embodies Maharashtra's identity. He emphasized that those lacking substance rely on this legacy.
During a conversation with Sanjay Raut, the executive editor of the party's publication Saamana, Uddhav addressed the loss of the Shiv Sena name and symbol to Eknath Shinde, stating: "Currently, I possess nothing. Yet, the public receives me with warmth and concern. They express their discontent with ongoing events. The populace recognizes that Thackeray stands for honesty, advocates for their welfare, and fearlessly articulates their struggles. This enduring loyalty from the people of Maharashtra is a testament to our bond over the years."
Increasing his critique of Eknath Shinde and the BJP, Uddhav remarked, "Those devoid of merit, who are fundamentally empty, depend on the Thackeray brand. They lack originality and ideals. Regardless of their longevity, a singular question persists: What have they contributed to the populace or the state? Nothing. They are attempting to enhance their relevance by appropriating this brand."
In a subtle jibe at the double-engine government, Uddhav noted that numerous individuals are conspiring to undermine the Thackeray legacy, stating, "Certain figures desire to be the sole name recognized in the nation. They liken themselves to deities. What can be said about such individuals? They arrive with time and depart with time. If one fails to honor our traditions, those traditions will not honor them in return," he criticized the National Democratic Alliance.
Uddhav also lambasted the Election Commission of India, claiming, "The electoral body wrongfully assigned the Shiv Sena's symbol to another entity, yet they should not have permitted the appropriation of the Shiv Sena name."
In support of his claims, Uddhav stated: "The party was established by my grandfather, Prabodhankar Thackeray, and my father, Balasaheb Thackeray." He added, "It’s not just Uddhav Thackeray; it’s Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray that holds significance. I am merely a vessel. Balasaheb consistently emphasized the importance of cherishing the blessings and virtues of our forebears. While Thackeray may be struggling, our name is irreplaceable."
"They (the Shinde faction) may have appropriated the symbol, but can they truly take away the affection and trust bestowed upon us by the people? Such sentiments are not for sale," he humorously remarked.
Reflecting on the recent Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections, he remarked, "In the Lok Sabha, I had candidates and seats, yet lacked a symbol. Nevertheless, the Maha Vikas Aghadi mounted a formidable challenge against the Mahayuti due to our strong coordination and determination to contest against the ruling coalition."
"In the Lok Sabha, every leader and worker within the Maha Vikas Aghadi yearned for victory; this was our election. However, during the Assembly polls, that collective spirit dissipated, replaced by individual ambitions. This fragmentation led to our defeat," he expressed regretfully.
Uddhav pointed out that various welfare initiatives, including the Ladki Bahin Yojana and crop loan waivers, significantly contributed to the Mahayuti's electoral success.
