New Delhi, April 28 (NationPress) BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Monday expressed strong disapproval of senior Congress leader Saifuddin Soz's remarks regarding Pakistan and his suggestion to the government to reconsider its choice to suspend the Indus Water Treaty. He accused Congress figures, including Soz, of shamelessly defending Pakistan.
The BJP leader took a sharp jab at Congress representatives for their sympathetic comments towards the rogue state, asserting, “Let Pakistan and its Friends’ Club be very clear: India will not offer even a drop of water if you spill even a drop of our blood.”
Without holding back, Anurag Thakur criticized Saifuddin Soz, a former Union Minister during the Congress-led UPA government, alleging that their sentiments were more aligned with Pakistan than with India.
On social media platform X, he stated: "The entire nation has unequivocally supported the diplomatic actions taken by the Modi government, which have been executed with remarkable restraint, to counter Pakistan and its terrorism. However, individuals like former Union Minister Saifuddin Soz, who represent the Congress's true nature, are distressed by the government's decision. Shamelessly defending Pakistan, their hearts bleed for a rogue nation."
Anurag Thakur's harsh remarks came in response to a muted reaction from several Congress leaders, including Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, regarding the Pahalgam terror attack. Siddaramaiah faced substantial criticism from various political factions for advocating against war with Pakistan.
Other Congress leaders, including Vijay Wadettiwar, stirred controversy by allegedly speaking on behalf of the terrorists responsible for chaos in Baisaran meadows, despite the top leadership of the party affirming its complete support for government action against Pakistan during the all-party meeting.
Thakur further urged Pakistan to cease allowing its territory to serve as a breeding ground for terrorists, issuing a warning: “Don’t expect hospitality when you are hostile.”
“Pakistan is a habitual offender that delights in inflicting pain on India and destabilizing the world through its state-sponsored terrorism; thus, it must be held accountable. The decision made by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government to suspend the Indus Water Treaty sends a strong message to Pakistan,” he asserted.
Earlier, senior Congress leader Saifuddin Soz stated to the press that the Indus Waters Treaty is crucial for Pakistan and warned that if river water is diverted, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir would be completely submerged.
“If Pakistan claims it is not involved in the Pahalgam attack, we should take their word for it,” he remarked, defending the nation accused of sponsoring terror.
“The Indus Water Treaty benefits both India and Pakistan. If we cease the water flow, it will inundate Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir entirely. Water should naturally flow to the sea. I believe we should not take such drastic measures,” he added in an interview.
