Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 14 (NationPress) Senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor openly criticized his own party on Friday, as preliminary vote-count indicators point to a disappointing performance for the INDIA alliance in Bihar.
While the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) appears to be leading by a considerable margin, Tharoor raised questions regarding significant aspects of the electoral results while addressing the media.
"It's currently a matter of leadership... let's await the Election Commission to elaborate and reveal the outcomes," he stated, emphasizing that all involved parties -- including Congress and RJD -- should thoroughly evaluate their performance.
"One needs to consider the bigger picture, as multiple factors influence election outcomes. Numerous issues warrant examination; let's analyze what transpired. I was not invited to campaign there, so those who participated will have a clearer understanding of the situation," Tharoor remarked.
He further pointed out that the primary ally in Bihar was not the Congress party.
Tharoor also held the NDA government accountable for allegedly providing benefits to women voters just prior to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.
"Whether we approve or not... this is permissible under our laws... I fear this is not the first instance we've observed state governments engaging in such actions, offering advantages to particular societal groups," he added, referencing similar occurrences in Maharashtra.
His remarks arise amid early polling trends indicating that the INDIA bloc is significantly impacted by Congress's unimpressive performance.
As per media sources, the party is currently leading in just about five out of the 61 seats it contested.
Notably, this isn't the first occasion where Tharoor has expressed such criticisms; he has been vocal recently, causing considerable discomfort, particularly in Kerala, where Congress faces off against the CPI-M and BJP.
