New Delhi, Sep 2 (NationPress) The BJP and its allies rallied on Tuesday to endorse Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju after his remarks criticizing the Congress party for allegedly directing abuses at MP Shashi Tharoor for sharing his independent perspectives. Rijiju remarked that while numerous Congress leaders possess commendable ideas for the nation, they often hesitate to voice them due to fear of the party's leadership.
Post 'Operation Sindoor', Tharoor was designated to head an Indian delegation for the country's outreach initiative. Since that moment, he has been subject to continuous criticism from within his own party.
In an interview with IANS, Rijiju commented, "There are numerous commendable leaders in the Congress, like Shashi Tharoor and others, who genuinely think about the country. Many MPs from Congress and other parties have valuable ideas but are intimidated to express them openly. Although Tharoor occasionally voices his opinions, he then encounters backlash from within Congress, which is unjust."
Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar shared Rijiju's views, stating, "The Opposition is resistant to any suggestions that benefit the nation."
BJP Rajya Sabha MP Deepak Prakash also supported Tharoor, asserting, "A responsible public representative will always prioritize the nation. They contribute to the vision of a Viksit Bharat and share their opinions as true patriots. Tharoor's actions may naturally discomfort those aiming to foster unrest in our country."
Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC criticized Congress, arguing that the party is "completely stifled."
In a statement to IANS, she said, "Tharoor articulates the views of an educated representative in Parliament, and when he speaks for the national interest, Congress appears utterly confused about his rationale. This confusion stems from the effective governance of the Modi administration."
BJP leader Fatehjang Singh Bajwa commended Tharoor for prioritizing the nation over political party lines.
"I believe that the country should come first before any political affiliation. Shashi Tharoor demonstrated this when he traveled to America following Operation Sindoor. The Government of India dispatched envoys abroad to elucidate the reasons behind Operation Sindoor and its consequences. They did not consider whether these envoys were from Congress, the Communist Party, or any other ideology; they selected individuals capable of best representing India. This endeavor was extremely successful," he told IANS.
Meanwhile, Mahua Maji, a Rajya Sabha MP from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), regarded Tharoor as an independent thinker and mentioned that linking the situation to Congress is inappropriate.
Speaking to IANS, she stated, "Tharoor is a writer with his own opinions. Typically, when he diverges from party lines, he does so with caution. There is no necessity to associate this with Congress. He is an individual who possesses the freedom to articulate his views."
