Mumbai, Feb 26 (NationPress) The British psychological thriller ‘The Eye’, featuring Shruti Haasan, is poised to have its premiere in India as the inaugural film of the 5th Wench Film Festival, established by Sapna Bhavnani.
This film festival celebrates horror, sci-fi, and fantasy genres and is scheduled to take place from February 27 to March 2, 2025.
The movie marks Shruti’s international debut in a leading role, directed by Daphne Schmon. ‘The Eye’ unfolds the eerie narrative of Diana (portrayed by Shruti Haasan), who travels to the isolated island where her husband Felix (played by Mark Rowley) drowned, seeking solace by dispersing his ashes.
However, her sorrow quickly transforms into curiosity when she discovers the enigmatic ‘Evil Eye’ ritual—an age-old tradition that could resurrect Felix but necessitates a grim and unsettling sacrifice. The film was shot in Athens and Corfu.
Reflecting on the film’s Indian premiere, Shruti Haasan remarked, “Psychological thrillers have consistently captivated me. Being part of a narrative that delves into human emotions, loss, and the supernatural is incredibly thrilling. Beyond its captivating plot and outstanding production quality, this project is uniquely special as it was developed under an all-women-led production house, aligning with my commitment to supporting women in the film industry.”
“Moreover, this film advocates for a sustainable filmmaking approach, which is essential for our future storytelling,” she added.
Director Daphne Schmon expressed, “‘The Eye’ serves as both a tribute to Corfu, my family’s homeland, and an examination of the dark psychological forces tied to grief. The narrative required an actor capable of conveying its emotional intricacies, and Shruti Haasan was the ideal choice. Her talent in portraying Diana’s anguish, paranoia, and resilience with such genuineness is extraordinary. Only an artist of Shruti’s caliber could do justice to this character, and she has delivered a remarkable performance that will resonate with audiences.”
The film is produced by Fingerprint Content.
