Chennai, Aug 7 (NationPress) In a crucial turn of events regarding the heinous murder of Special Sub-Inspector (SSI) Shanmugavel, Manikandan, the third suspect, was killed during a police encounter in Tamil Nadu on Thursday. Manikandan met his end after allegedly launching an attack on officers who had come to apprehend him.
As per police reports, a dedicated team located Manikandan at a secret hideout, following an extensive manhunt across the state.
During the arrest attempt, he reportedly charged at Assistant Inspector Saravanan with a weapon in hand.
In self-defense, the officer fired, leading to Manikandan's immediate death.
His remains have been sent for a post-mortem, and a magisterial inquiry has been initiated as per standard protocol.
The Tamil Nadu Police had established six specialized teams to capture the individuals involved in the murder of SSI Shanmugavel, who was brutally killed on the night of August 5 while on patrol duty in a coconut grove located in Chikkanoothu village, near Madathukulam in Tiruppur district.
The grove belongs to AIADMK MLA Mahendran, with the suspects reportedly working as estate laborers.
Shanmugavel had responded to an emergency call regarding a family dispute at the estate.
During his intervention, he faced a vicious attack from a father-son duo wielding a billhook, resulting in his tragic death.
His partner, an armed reserve constable, managed to escape and notify other officers. In the meantime, the other two suspects, Moorthy and his son Thangapandi, surrendered at the Tiruppur District Superintendent of Police's office on Wednesday.
