Patna, Jan 8 (NationPress) A 60-year-old man tragically passed away after drinking spurious liquor, while his son experienced a partial loss of eyesight in Bihar's Samastipur district, as confirmed by an official on Thursday.

The incident occurred in Bhakhri Bujurg village, within the jurisdiction of the Musrigharari police station.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Baleshwar Shah.

Baleshwar Shah's son, Bablu Shah, reported to the police that he purchased two tetra-packets of liquor, while his father bought one.

The liquor was obtained via a home delivery service, with payment made online on January 1. Bablu Shah has provided evidence of this online transaction, police stated.

“After consuming the liquor, both the father and son’s health deteriorated on January 1, leading to their admission at a private hospital. They were discharged the same day and remained at home on January 2,” explained Sanjay Pandey, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Samastipur.

“However, their health again worsened on the night of January 2, and family members took them back to a private hospital. They were later referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), where Baleshwar Shah succumbed to his condition during treatment,” Pandey added.

The family cremated the body without notifying local authorities, the officer noted.

On Wednesday night, Bablu Shah's wife, Radha Devi, informed the Musrigharari police station about the incident.

Police subsequently documented Bablu Shah's statement, which substantiated the complaint made by his wife.

“We have acknowledged the situation and filed an FIR. The tetra-packets of liquor have been confiscated and sent for forensic analysis. We await the investigation report, which will clarify the cause of death,” Pandey stated.

“The Samastipur police are also reaching out to doctors who treated the victims in both Samastipur and Patna. We are probing Bablu Shah's assertion regarding his partial eyesight loss,” he added.

Sources suggest that the liquor was supposedly supplied by a neighbor of the deceased.
