Barwani (Madhya Pradesh), June 14 (NationPress) A tragic incident unfolded when a 22-year-old woman laborer lost her life after plummeting from the third floor of a government school building under construction in Anjad village, Barwani district on Saturday, according to officials.
The victim has been identified as Raksha, who hailed from Jhabua district in Madhya Pradesh.
As per the Barwani police, Raksha was busy applying water to the walls—a routine procedure in construction to avert cracks—when she lost her footing and fell to the ground.
This unfortunate event transpired approximately 30 km away from the Barwani district headquarters.
She was swiftly transported to Sai Hospital in Anjad, but medical staff pronounced her dead upon arrival. Subsequently, her remains were sent to the Barwani District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Raksha had relocated to Barwani just two months prior with her family to seek employment at the construction site.
“She was applying water to the wall when she slipped and fell. We rushed her to the hospital, but unfortunately, she didn’t make it,” recounted Manish Kumar, a relative and co-worker.
Authorities arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and commenced an investigation.
Initial findings indicate that there were no safety nets or protective gear installed at the construction site, indicating a blatant breach of labor safety regulations. The involvement of the labor contractor is also under examination.
This sorrowful occurrence follows another construction mishap in Narsinghpur district just a day earlier, where three workers were electrocuted and multiple others injured after an iron ladder contacted an 11 KV power line while they were setting up a tent.
Officials in both districts have been instructed to compile reports on safety protocols and ensure stricter adherence to worker protection measures at construction sites.
