Hyderabad, Nov 25 (NationPress) A tragic incident occurred in the old city of Hyderabad where one individual lost their life and five others sustained injuries due to a devastating fire at an electronics store, according to police reports released on Tuesday.
The fire ignited in an electronics shop located in Shahalibanda on Monday night, reportedly triggered by a short circuit. An explosion from a CNG cylinder in a vehicle parked outside the shop contributed to the rapid spread of flames.
A man, whose identity remains unknown, was located near the shop and was taken to Osmania General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Authorities are currently working to identify the deceased, believed to be between 50 and 55 years old.
According to C. Srinu, the Station House Officer at Moghalpura Police Station, the deceased is suspected to be of the Muslim faith.
Meanwhile, police have collected statements from Shivakumar Bansal, the owner of the electronics shop, who also suffered injuries in the incident and is receiving treatment at Apollo Hospital. He described the horrifying moment when he was at the counter around 10 p.m.; he heard a blast emanating from the showroom. As he attempted to comprehend the situation, he heard another explosion and witnessed flames erupting. The third explosion led to him falling and sustaining burn injuries.
The fire extended to an adjacent warehouse and other nearby shops, resulting in significant property damage. An adjacent clothing store was completely destroyed in the blaze.
Additionally, nearby homes suffered shattered window panes due to the force of the explosions.
It is suspected that the fire's intensity was exacerbated by the explosion of several refrigerator cylinders, geysers, and electronic appliances stored within the shop.
A total of eight fire engines, a skylift fire truck, and a firefighting robot were deployed to combat the flames, which took over two hours to extinguish.
Khare Kiran Prabhakar, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone), confirmed that the initial cause of the fire was a short circuit in the electronics shop. The resulting flames quickly engulfed the CNG vehicle parked outside, leading to rapid fire spread.
Several individuals were present in the shops and some were inside the car during the fire and explosions, resulting in six people being injured and hospitalized.
The DCP emphasized that firefighters successfully contained the situation, mitigating further damage.
He urged the public not to trust misleading information circulating on social media and requested that the media rely solely on official police communications to avoid unnecessary panic.
