Tragic Suffocation Incident Claims Lives of Five Family Members in J&K

Srinagar, Jan 5 (NationPress) A tragic incident occurred on Sunday in which five family members lost their lives due to suffocation in the Srinagar district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to officials, the deceased included a couple and their three children, who were found in the Pandrathan area of Srinagar district.

The family, originally from Baramulla district, had been residing in a rented place in Pandrathan. They became unconscious because of suffocation and were rushed to the hospital, where medical staff confirmed they were dead on arrival.

Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister, expressed his shock and sorrow over this devastating event.

He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving relatives and offered prayers for strength to help them endure this irreversible loss.

While praying for the departed souls, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for utmost caution when using heating appliances during the severe winter months.

He highlighted the importance of following government advisories regarding the safe use of heating devices to avert such tragic occurrences. In extreme cold, residents sometimes unwittingly use LPG heaters in enclosed spaces.

These gas heaters emit carbon monoxide, and when used in a completely sealed room without ventilation, they can become deadly.

Health department officials routinely issue warnings against using gas heaters in closed environments, stressing the dangerous consequences of such practices.

The safest heating options are those that vent emissions outside the area of use.

Earlier on Sunday, another tragic event unfolded when four individuals lost their lives after their vehicle veered off control and fell into a gorge in Massu Kishtwar.

Additionally, on Saturday, four army soldiers were killed, and one was injured in an accident involving an army vehicle in the Saderkoot Payeen area of Bandipora district.
