Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Oct 29 (NationPress) The train services experienced a major disruption at Dornakal in Telangana's Mahabubabad district on Wednesday due to flooded railway tracks caused by intense rainfall from the impact of the severe Cyclone Montha, which made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast.
The Guntur-Secunderabad Golconda Express was halted at Dornakal Railway Station, while the Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Konark Express and Adilabad-Tirupati Krishna Express were also stopped at Mahabubabad Railway Station.
In the meantime, the Sainagar Shirdi Express was forced to stop at Kondapalli in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.
Additionally, around 12 freight trains were brought to a standstill at various railway stations across Andhra Pradesh.
The South Central Railway has already cancelled 127 trains and diverted 14 trains as a result of Cyclone Montha.
On Wednesday, the SCR confirmed the cancellation of the Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Express and the Howrah-Secunderabad Falaknuma Express, both set to depart on October 29 and October 30, respectively.
The SCR further announced that the Howrah-Secunderabad and Howrah-SMVT Bengaluru trains will resume their original routes instead of the previously announced diverted ones.
The list of cancelled trains for October 29 included routes such as Nanded-Visakhapatnam, Visakhapatnam-Lingampalli, Visakhapatnam-Kadapa, and Narasapur-Guntur.
Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, the General Manager of South Central Railway, conducted a review meeting on Tuesday focused on ensuring the safety of train operations and developing an action plan to address the cyclone situation.
He held a comprehensive meeting with all divisions, including principal department heads, particularly from the Vijayawada and Guntur divisions.
He instructed officials to monitor the cyclone's path closely to implement necessary precautions. He also recommended collaboration with state government officials and NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams to oversee railway-affected areas and ensure track safety and train operations.
Moreover, he emphasized conducting monsoon patrols on tracks in potentially affected areas. Stationary watchmen were deployed at all vulnerable bridges and locations to provide real-time updates.
