Railway Services Disrupted: Train Cancellations and Reduced Frequency Due to Fog

Kolkata, Nov 30 (NationPress) As foggy conditions prevail, the Railways has decided to cancel four pairs of express trains for a duration of nearly three months (from December to February) to safeguard passenger safety and enhance operational efficiency.

"Considering the diminished visibility during this period, train operations are significantly slowed down. To avert accidents, we are taking measures to limit the number of trains running on the affected routes. Streamlining the tracks facilitates better operations under these weather circumstances. We aim to discontinue trains that typically experience lower demand during this season," stated a senior official from the Eastern Railway's operations department.

Among the train pairs that have been cancelled are the Howrah-Dehradun Express, Jhansi-Kolkata Pratham Swatantrata Sangram Express, Kamakhya-Gaya Weekly Express, and the New Delhi-Malda Town Express. The Upasana Express will not operate from either end from December 3, 2024, to March 1, 2025. The Jhansi-Kolkata Express will be cancelled between December 6 and January 12, 2025.

The Kamakhya-Gaya Weekly Express will not run from December 2 to February 25, 2025, while the New Delhi-Malda Town Express will remain suspended from December 1 until March 1, 2025.

Additionally, the Eastern Railway has revealed that there will be reduced services for the Mathura-Howrah Chambal Express between December 2, 2024, and January 10, 2025. During this time, the train will not operate between Mathura and Agra.

The official further mentioned that the frequencies of several other train pairs have also been adjusted. These include the Howrah-Kathgodam Bagh Express, Kolkata-Amritsar Durgiana Express, Anand Vihar-Bhagalpur Garib Rath Express, and the Ajmer-Sealdah Superfast Express.

"These measures are intended to guarantee that the more frequented trains connecting North India, such as the Rajdhani Expresses, Duronto Expresses, Poorva Express, and Netaji Express (previously known as Kalka Mail), can maintain optimal punctuality. An increased number of trains on a given route raises the likelihood of bunching. Currently, the railway link between Howrah and New Delhi is extremely congested," concluded the official.
