Agartala, March 20 (NationPress) The Budget session of the Tripura Assembly is set to commence on Friday, where in addition to the budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, several significant bills and reports will be presented.
The Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, announced that the Finance, Planning and Coordination Minister, Pranajit Singha Roy, will unveil the 2025-26 budget on the first day of this session, which falls on Friday (March 21).
Nath, who also oversees the Agriculture and Power portfolios, indicated that the agenda for the budget session was established during a recent meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, chaired by Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen.
Attending the meeting were Nath, various ministers, ruling party MLAs, Leader of Opposition (LOP) Jitendra Chaudhury, and Congress MLA Birajit Sinha. He mentioned that the session will feature seven sittings and extend until April 1.
"This will be the longest session in 15 years for the Tripura Assembly. The government aims for comprehensive and in-depth discussions regarding the budget and other critical issues. We encourage maximum participation from both the treasury and opposition benches during the budget discussions and other significant topics," the Parliamentary Affairs Minister communicated to the media.
The upcoming session marks the second convening of the Tripura Assembly in 2023.
The first three-day session of this year occurred from January 10. During that session, a bill was approved, which significantly increased the salaries and allowances of the Chief Minister, Ministers, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, LOP, Chief Whip, and MLAs by over 81 to 92 percent. The Bill stipulates that an MLA will receive full retirement benefits even if they served as a member of the House for just a single day. Proposed salary increments include the Chief Minister at Rs 97,000, the Deputy Chief Minister at Rs 96,000, Ministers, Speaker, LOP, and Chief Whip at Rs 95,000, the Deputy Speaker at Rs 94,000, and an MLA at Rs 93,000.
