Agartala, March 12 (NationPress) The Budget session of the Tripura Assembly is set to commence on March 21. In addition to the budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, several significant bills will be presented during this session, as stated by a minister on Wednesday.
The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Agriculture, and Power, Ratan Lal Nath, announced that Finance, Planning, and Coordination Minister Pranajit Singha Roy would unveil the 2025-26 budget on the inaugural day of the session.
The agenda for the budget session was finalized during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee held on Wednesday, which was chaired by Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen. The meeting included several ministers, ruling party MLAs, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jitendra Chaudhury, and former Minister and Congress MLA Birajit Sinha.
Spanning seven sittings, the budget session will run until April 1, with the minister noting that this upcoming assembly session will be the longest in the past 15 years.
"The government aims for a more comprehensive discussion regarding the budget. We seek the participation of as many members from both the treasury and opposition benches in the budget discussions and other critical matters," the Parliamentary Affairs Minister told reporters.
This upcoming session will mark the second assembly session of Tripura in 2023. The first session, held earlier this year, lasted for three days from January 10. During the last session, legislation was passed to increase the salaries and allowances of the Chief Minister, Ministers, Speaker, LoP, Chief Whip, and MLAs by over 81 to 92 percent. According to the Bill, an MLA will be entitled to all retirement benefits if they have served as a member of the House for even a single day. The proposed salary increases include: Chief Minister to Rs 97,000, Deputy Chief Minister to Rs 96,000, Ministers, Speaker, LoP, and Chief Whip to Rs 95,000, Deputy Speaker to Rs 94,000, and an MLA to Rs 93,000.
