Agartala, Feb 25 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, emphasized the importance of enhancing collaboration between various security agencies, notably the Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura Police, to reinforce surveillance along the border with Bangladesh. During his speech at the Police Week celebration held at the Manoranjan Debbarma Memorial Stadium located on the city’s outskirts, he highlighted that improved coordination among these forces is vital for ensuring robust security in border areas and for averting cross-border illegal activities.
With an 856-km international border shared with Bangladesh, Tripura is encircled by the neighboring nation on three sides, rendering the state particularly susceptible to cross-border crimes, smuggling, and issues related to illegal migration.
Saha, who also oversees the Home portfolio, commended the Tripura Police for their exemplary work in combatting crime, upholding law and order, executing anti-drug measures, preventing traffic accidents, and addressing various public safety matters. He expressed confidence that the Tripura Police would persist in their commendable journey with unwavering dedication and professionalism.
At the Tripura Police Week 2026 event, the Chief Minister observed the parade and honored the brave police personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Tripura stands out as one of the top-performing states in India regarding law and order, and the improved security situation has significantly boosted tourism in recent years, according to the Chief Minister.
He asserted that the crime rate has diminished by 8.3 percent over the last two decades, and the police infrastructure has seen steady enhancements. Saha noted that police initiatives have intensified in addressing various cyber crimes, including fraudulent digital arrests, and substantial progress has been made in combating the drug crisis.
He reassured that his government has granted the police full authority to tackle all forms of crime and maintain order, with no tolerance for criminal activities.
The Tripura Police, established 150 years ago during princely rule, is among the oldest police forces in India and was honored with the esteemed President’s Colour on January 12, 2012, as pointed out by Saha.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister inaugurated 20 new vehicles and 120 two-wheelers for police stations across the state, asserting the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure for improved public service.
During the Police Week Parade, he awarded medals to dedicated police personnel. In a social media post, he congratulated the medal recipients, stating, “Your commitment to public service will continue to motivate us all.”
