Agartala, Sep 17 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, called on the public to extend the respect that sanitation workers deserve, emphasizing their crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in our cities and neighborhoods.
During the launch of the fortnight-long state-level Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) initiative at the renowned Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan, he remarked that sanitation workers are essential for community health and wellbeing, deserving the same recognition as frontline workers for their invaluable contributions to cleanliness and public health.
CM Saha noted that out of 765 Open Defecation Free (ODF) villages, 762 have been recognized as ODF plus model villages, marking a significant achievement.
“Tripura has received national acclaim for its performance in solid and liquid waste management,” he stated.
The ninth edition of SHS 2025 commenced nationwide on Wednesday, coinciding with the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This campaign will run until October 2, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti and the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri.
The 15-day initiative aims to mobilize millions across the nation for impactful cleanliness drives.
Launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, SHS 2025 seeks to unite citizens, communities, and organizations to enhance visible cleanliness on the ground, focusing on Cleanliness Target Units—dark, dirty, and neglected areas.
While addressing the audience, the Chief Minister shared that five rural plastic waste management units are operational in the state, with plans for more in the future.
He encouraged everyone to dedicate at least one hour each day to cleaning activities during the SHS fortnight, stressing the importance of involving students and youth in the initiative.
“Awareness regarding cleanliness and proper waste management must be raised through various events, including debates, painting competitions, and cultural functions,” CM Saha highlighted.
Among the dignitaries present were Kishor Barman, Minister of Higher Education, Panchayat & General Administration, and Dipak Majumder, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation.
Additionally, the Chief Minister extended his wishes to the Prime Minister on his 75th birthday through various social media platforms. In his post, Saha expressed, “Dear Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Happy 75th Birthday… Your heart resonates with the pulse of Bharat, a sacred flame igniting hope, pride, and dreams in every Indian's soul.”
“For 75 years, you have served as a true son of Maa Bharti, committing your life to her glory. Your visionary leadership has crafted a narrative of progress. Digital India has connected our most remote regions, Atmanirbhar Bharat has empowered us to stand tall, and Viksit Bharat is our collective aspiration materializing under your steadfast guidance.
“Every step you take, every policy you forge, is a love letter to our nation's future. May Maa Tripura Sundari bless you with divine strength, wisdom, and limitless energy to guide Bharat toward new horizons. You are our pride, our 'yug purush', our guiding star. Here’s to a long life dedicated to our motherland,” he concluded.
