West Tripura district Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar K confirmed that the police acted on intelligence and conducted a raid on Thursday night at the residence of one Mohammad Babul Miah (45) located in the Mahiskhala Chandinnamura area, just outside Agartala city, where they discovered the methamphetamine tablets, commonly referred to as Yaba or party tablets.
The drugs are estimated to have a street value of Rs 5.5 crore. Additionally, police also seized five smartphones and two motorbikes during the operation. Alongside Mohammad Babul Miah, two other suspects—Sipan Hussain (26) and Sanjay Miah (42)—were apprehended.
A specific case has been filed under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 against the trio, who are expected to appear in court later today.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who oversees the Home portfolio, commended the police for their achievement in seizing the narcotics.
Interestingly, this seizure occurred just nine days after the Assam Rifles and Customs, alongside the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), confiscated drugs worth Rs 24 crore in Tripura and arrested a drug dealer.
A defence spokesperson indicated that based on targeted intelligence, a combined team of Assam Rifles and Customs officials recovered unclaimed luggage on the Agartala-bound Shatabdi Express at Ambassa in Dhalai district on the night of February 26, uncovering over 1,50,000 methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 15 crore.
On the same day, the Assam Rifles, in conjunction with DRI officials, intercepted a goods truck loaded with cement bags from Shillong at Teliamura in Khowai district. A thorough search revealed 90,000 methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 9 crore hidden within the truck. One individual, a resident of Belonia in the South Tripura district, was also detained.
